Please note- the telephone line is manned between the hours of 9.00am until 3.30pm, on Tuesdays and Thursday's, if you do call within these times, and the phones goes straight to answer machine this is because the team are taking other calls, if you leave your name and telephone number, they will call you back within their opening hours.

Benefit Benefits offers assistance with the following -

 

  • Carers Allowance (CA)

  • Attendance Allowance (AA)

  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

  • Personal Independence Payments (PIP)

  • Employment Support Allowance (ESA)

  • Universal Credit (UC)

  • Council Tax reductions for eligible households

  • Housing Benefit (only as part of the Universal Credit Process)

  • Working Tax Credit / Child Tax Credit renewals and new applications only

  • Blue Badge application and renewals

  • Mandatory Reconsiderations & Appeal assistance for all benefits above – please note assistance with appeals does not guarantee the advisor is able to attend the tribunal with you. This will be discussed with your advisor, and an agreement will be made on the date the appeal is lodged.

Bay Benefits cannot assist with -

  • Any form of Debt- this includes Council Tax debt – the advisor will signpost you accordingly

  • County Court Judgements (CCJ) or Enforcement agents (bailiffs)

  • Dental and prescription fines

  • Prescription charges

  • Devon Home Choice applications or assistance once registered with Devon Home Choice

  • Student Loans

  • Child Maintenance

  • Pensions (Private or State)

  • Financial Advice

  • Legal Advice

  • Local Authority Concessionary bus passes

  • Grants for breaks, or equipment (Please see the Carers Aid Torbay team for assistance)

  • Any historic Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) over or under payments

  • Care Plans

If you have an appointment to see Bay Benefits please bring with you to the initial appointment:

  • your bank, building society or credit union account details

  •  an email address if you have one

  • your National Insurance number

  • information about your housing, for example how much rent you pay

  • details of your income, for example payslips

  • details of savings and any investments, like shares or a property that you rent out

  • details of how much you pay for childcare if you’re applying for help with childcare costs

If you do not provide the right information when you apply it might affect when you get paid or how much you get.

You also have to verify your identity online. You’ll need some proof of identity for this, for example your:

  • driving licence

  • passport

  • debit or credit card

Plus any medical/ official diagnosis letters and repeat prescriptions.
